Bob Lum was a visionary custom knifemaker with an exceptional understanding of Asian blade designs. Spyderco’s Lum Tanto, originally released in 2001, faithfully captured Lum’s remarkable ability to fuse the best elements of Eastern and Western knifemaking into a single, extraordinary package.
Spyderco is proud to announce the return of this iconic knife as a limited-production Sprint Run. True to the original, it not only features full-tang construction, but a tapered tang. This highly refined construction method reduces the overall weight of the knife and ensures a lively balance. The handle features polished, contoured scales made of paperstone, a phenolic laminate with a rich, lustrous appearance. They are secured to the tang with stainless steel pins and help create the knife’s subtle yet functional double guard.
The Lum Tanto’s blade is meticulously ground from VG-10 stainless steel and features a hybrid tanto shape that combines the classic Japanese tanto profile and Hamaguri (“clamshell”) point bevel with the elegance of hollow-ground primary bevels. These are complemented by a tapered, crested spine to create one of the most strikingly beautiful Spyderco knives ever produced.
Every Lum Tanto includes a handsome pouch-style sheath with a belt loop. Expertly crafted from genuine leather, it is the perfect complement to an exquisite knife.
